Nationally Renowned Poet, Activist to Perform in Madison
The Urban Spoken Word Poetry Collective is excited to announce that poet, activist, Buddy Wakefield, will perform at 7pm on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Genna’s Lounge on 105 West Main Street in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wakefield, 32, is one of the most talented and seasoned spoken word poets performing currently. He is the two-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion and he has been featured on NPR, the BBC, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, and most recently signed to Strange Famous Records. Wakefield has also performed with nearly every notable performance poet in the world including Saul Williams, Sage Francis, Alix Olsen, Derrick Brown and Utah Phillips in hundreds of venues internationally from Comedy Central’s Hudson Theater and Scotland’s Oran Moore to San Quentin State Penitentiary, House of Blues (New Orleans) and CBGB’s. He hails from Seattle and according to his handlers, Wakefield “is known for delivering raw, rounded, high vibration performances of humor and heart through powerful accounts of release.”
The Urban Spoken Word Poetry Collective is a Madison-based organization of poets that organize monthly poetry readings and poetry slams on every third Saturday of the month. The cover for the show is only $5.
